Viewfinder Gallery      Exhibitions

Viewfinder Photography Gallery is a not-for-profit gallery space based in Greenwich. Launched in November 2005, its exhibitions are based on provoking discussions around image making. Aimed at new and emerging practitioners the space has a pragmatic stance to photographic work, presenting a changing field of imagery on its walls and offering practitioners the chance to work in response to the gallery space.

In the past Viewfinders exhibitions have dealt with issues surrounding community, absence, public/private boundaries, urban culture and there has also been a display of 3D images of rock formations. The gallery is keen to show images that are clear and cohesive, that have a strong concept behind them.

Work can be submitted to the gallery for consideration and the space is also available to hire. Alongside the exhibitions there is often an event that engages the public with the work on display whether this is through discussion or practical photo-taking.
The current exhibition, 'Not Performing' explores the increasingly blurred boundaries between the performed and the natural, between the theatre and the everyday. The shop sells individual catalogues for each exhibition as well as books, magazines and cards.
Entirely staffed by volunteers, to enable the gallery to continue their program of promoting work by new and established art photographers, they ask for support by offering the chance to join the gallery as a standard or corporate member or through sponsorship or volunteering yourself.
Based in Linear House, once the receiving station for the poor of Greenwich in the late 1800's, Viewfinder takes photography as a medium in the widest possible sense.
