Photo-London 2007
31 May - 3 June 2007, Old Billingsgate
Photo-London 2007
Old Billingsgate

All change at photo-london: London’s international contemporary photography fair has new management, a new concept and a new venue. In November 2006, photo-london was taken over by Reed Exhibitions, owner and organiser of Paris Photo, now the most important photography fair in the world. With Paris Photo in the autumn, photo-london being held in the spring is the perfect complement.

The brainchild of Daniel Newburg, who will be staying on as creative director, the first photo-london was established in 2004 as the UK’s only art fair dedicated to photography. Following the success of AIPAD and Paris Photo it seemed logical that the same idea would work in London and sure enough the event has grown in momentum with each successive year. Now with the Paris Photo team managing photo-london 2007 its growing popularity should hit new heights.

Another major change for 2007 is that while Paris Photo offers a panoramic overview of fine art photography from its early days to the most contemporary production, photo-london will now focus exclusively on contemporary photography since 1970. In the words of the organisers, photo-london “aims to show the diversity of subjects, concepts, styles and techniques explored by photo-based artists from documentary work to conceptual art photography, as well as image combined with media such as audio, video, and installation.” The organisers intention is for photo-london to provide a unique platform to highlight the latest international trends and expressions in the medium of photography.

Finally, the biggest change is that the fourth photo-london will take place in a new and exceptional venue, Old Billingsgate, a magnificent 19th-century market building designed by Sir Horace Jones and entirely renovated in 1988 by Richard Rogers. Now with 7,800 square metres of floor space, photo-london will host some 60 exhibitors – international galleries and publishers. We can’t wait!
